Schools National Tree Day 2022

On Friday 29th July, Launceston Toyota teamed up with the Grade 8 Class Leaders to get their hands dirty and participate in Schools Tree Day, as part of Planet Ark’s National Tree Day. This important initiative is Australia’s largest annual tree-planting and nature care event. Plantings take place across the country on the last weekend of July. Over the last 25 years, over 26 million native trees, shrubs and grasses have been planted by over 5 million National Tree Day Volunteers.

This partnership is not only beneficial to the school landscape, but of equal importance it starts the conversation about the necessity of connecting with nature, planting native trees and playing a positive, active role in the community.

This year, Kings Meadows High School students and Launceston Toyota planted 6 established trees, three Golden Robinias and three Miniature Lilly Pillies (Minipilly) across the playground and grassed spaces. The intention behind the tree placements is to provide natural shade options for students when they are outdoors, particularly on carnival days. This will ideally reduce the amount of additional manmade infrastructure needed to provide this shade and improve the environmental impact made by these events and the students participating in them.
